Man Shot, police have suspect – REALLY????

Another misleading heading to a News Article leaving me unsurprised!

Man shot; police have suspect

No arrests made yet in Possum Run Road incident

MANSFIELD — Authorities say they know who shot a man Monday night on Possum Run Road, but at press time could not reveal the shooter’s name.

Sgt. Mike Viars, of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, said the incident started at a home, 3246 Possum Run Road, approximately a half-mile from where the victim was stopped by police as he attempted to leave the scene around 10:45 p.m.

“There was a verbal altercation that turned physical,” Viars said.

He said the woman who owns the home is accusing the shooting victim, and the woman he was with, of stealing her firearm.

Viars said the two parties know each other.

Viars said someone shot the man in the back as he attempted to drive away in a black Grand Am. His passenger, unharmed, was placed in the back of a cruiser for questioning.

The victim was taken by Washington Township EMS to MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital. He was conscious and speaking to medics as they assisted him.

His bloody gray shirt lie on the ground near his black ball cap containing two cellphones, as he was carried away from the scene.

Viars said the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office will determine charges, but none were processed by midnight last night.

“We do know the identity of the shooter and all involved have been identified, but no arrests have been made,” Viars said.

  1. This is very useful indeed. I am amazed this info is not more generally available, but many thanks for your attention to it! This is almost certainly the most complete source I’ve discovered thus far, and it really is quite useful. Cheers

  2. Excellent point, I was in fact uninformed of this until browsing your exploration. See the issue is actually finding information on this topic anywhere, since it seems like so few people genuinely input the hard work to freely exchange info like once was previously so widespread on the web. I remember long ago when it was still a “new thing” the net was filled with people passing out information widely. Forums, for example, have been relegated to the outskirts and social media just continues developing. Anyways thanks once again and take care!

Sincere thoughts and concerns for the brave young man who was protecting his mother. I know being a juvenile, his identity cannot be released; however, if anybody knows who he is, we have target practices a couple times a month and he is welcome to come, so next time he will be a better shot.

Oh good they released the loser from the hospital!!! Maybe this young lad will get a second chance at his target. Young man start at post mast, then move up about 4 inches….

I agree Jim, this is a travesty to justice thinking it is cheaper to leave career criminals among us. Since this Nation is no longer considered a Christian Nation, we need to go back to an Old Testament way of thinking! – eye for an eye!

If this was a robbery it’s too bad the jackass survived, if it was a drug deal gone bad it’s too bad that any of them survived. I’m getting so sick of all of this crap, we really need an actual justice department who will sweep the shit off of the streets.

The question should be, who invites folks over after dark who have a history of violence?.

The man and woman who came to this house were allegedly suspected of stealing from this boy’s house and were attacking his mother, I can’t say I fault him for shooting, because if someone is brash enough to come into another person’s home and rob them then assault them outside, drug deal or not, they have voluntarily put themselves in a potentially violent situation. I also agree with the previous comments, the situation just seems a bit sketchy.

Good shot kid! Did they steal the gun is the big question here to make the situation dangerous enough to shoot.
Nice work people, its time we let the people that are brash enough to try this stuff that it won’t happen at your house!

Can we say we know who the shooter was too? They did mention after all that the guy shot and the woman with him had stole the residents firearm. The question now becomes, did they steal this weapon before or after one of them were shot? It will no doubt be interesting to find out why the two parties that knew each other had the altercation in the 1st place. Will Jamie do a follow up, or will this as many cases get swept under the rug?

Phil Sydnor · Top commenter · Public Scrutiny
I find it interesting once again on the articles heading “police have suspect”. This comment is possessive and will indicate they actually have them in custody?. I guess it’s a tad bit catchier to say this instead of police know who the suspect is…Because it would sound like in many cases that we have here is why NOBODY was arrested. Once again, too funny!
