This letter is in answer to Mr. Ahmad Rashad’s March 20, 2014 letter.
You may be right — there were no Native Americans, blacks, Latinos or Asians that sat at the table or fought for our freedom in the Revolutionary War. Could that have been their choice?
My family ancestors fought in the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Where were your ancestors? The U.S. Constitution says “Freedom for all,” meaning you. Not just “whites” as you call us.
Yes, many people who first came to the United States had a rough time, as did the first colonists. But they worked hard, learned to speak English and expected no handouts. They came to get away from such dictators as Hitler, Mao and Stalin, who put many hundreds of thousands of people to death and now Vladimir Putin is doing the same. Because of our freedoms — freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly — you can write to the editor and have your say. Could you do this in many other countries? I think not.
We all, including you, Mr. Rashad, enjoy so many freedoms. Maybe you should thank these “whites” that signed the U.S. Constitution at risk to their lives and the lives of their families. The United States has also made mistakes and has tried to rectify many of these mistakes monetarily with taxpayers’ money.
I am proud to be a white German-Irish American and God bless us all.
Like Jeanette, I am proud to be part of a family who fought for the FREEDOM of Blacks during the Civil War that found MANY families separate. Our family of slave owners in Virginia were separated when West Virginia was formed. This Ahmad Rashad should not have been given the light of day to print this race baiting article as Bud so proclaimed, it inaccurate, and irresponsible reading on TRUE American History they are NO LONGER Teaching in our Schools. Typical of Mansfield, probably why THEY are FAILING!!!!
Phil Sydnor in response, don’t believe the TRUTH? Look up my family HISTORY HERE!
